Be a Part of Urban Tellers® Wordstock Edition

Hello everyone,

Portland Story Theater is thrilled to be partnering with Literary Arts for Wordstock!

We want to invite authors, writers in the schools, DELVE guides and others affiliated with Literary Arts to participate in our Art of Personal Narrative workshop, culminating in an URBAN TELLERS® show. URBAN TELLERS® is our monthly show featuring the true, personal stories of the people of Portland, told eye-to eye, face-to-face, and heart-to-heart. No notes, no props, no costumes; just the teller, the audience and the words.

There is a time commitment but there will be no cost to you for your participation in this unique workshop and performance process; the usual workshop fee will be waived.

If you are a published author, we would be happy to have your books available for sale at the show. We can work through your publisher or agent to make sure it’s all on the up-and-up.

We have had many writers and published authors go through the workshop and tell their stories. Many of them have said that the process of creating and telling a story orally – no writing, no reading – has helped them grow by leaps and bounds in their writing. Click here to read a blog post by writer Diane Ponti about her experience of telling a personal story with us. To get a flavor of the stories that are typically told at an URBAN TELLERS® show, click here to go to our YouTube channel.

There is no pre-set theme; you are free to tell a story about anything you like, as long as it has meaning for you and is a true, personal story. A theme that ties all the stories together will emerge organically within the group as the stories develop.

Here are the dates of the workshop and show:
October and November, 2016
Thursdays 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10
(7-10:30 pm)
Plus one individual session, date and time TBA
Friday 11/4 (Urban Tellers® show 6:30-9:30 pm)

If you’re interested, please let us know asap. The workshop/show is limited to six participants.

Thanks! We are looking forward to collaborating with you.
